How does Fluorescent or CFLs work?

CFLs produce light by electrically exciting a vapor in the tube, causing it to fluoresce. This technology consumes 75 percent to 80 percent less energy, produces far less heat compare to traditional incandescent bulbs, and yet fluorescent bulbs produces and delivers all the light a person needs.

Why switch from traditional bulbs to CFLs?

The answer to this is very simple. CFLs have environmental and economical benefits. Not only do CFL bulbs consume only 1/3 of the energy, it lasts 10 times longer as well compare to incandescent light. Actually, if a homeowner replaced 10 60 watt incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs then he or she can save up to 15, 000 pesos in energy cost over the life of the bulbs and he or she is also preventing the production of 3,400 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Choosing the right CFL.

As mentioned earlier CFLs now come in different shapes and sizes, but it also have various shades of light which are measures in Kelvin. The softer or the warmer the shade is, the lower the Kelvin, for a brighter shade, look for bulbs with higher rating.
