|
If the surfaces, closets and drawers in your home are filled with clutter, then this could cause so much stress on you. So here are 10 simple things you can do to reduce your clutter:
-
If you have old items that you can no longer find an immediate need for and you are in doubt that you’ll still be able to use them, then get rid of these items. These so-called “good stuffs” will just fill the space of your organizers and won’t come in handy any time soon, so it is better to just either, throw them or give them away to a friend or take them to a recycling center.
-
Put up your recycling bins in a hidden but convenient area. Aside from your usual baskets, old boxes and bags, plastic containers work best since they are easy to clean.
-
Give away or discard clothes which you haven’t used for a long time, at least around 6 to 9 months. I doesn’t matter if it still fits you or not or you remember wearing it in an appropriate season. Also, get rid of garments that your children have outgrown, find another parent or friend who can still use these clothes; otherwise, just throw them away without being sentimental.
-
After getting rid of your entire old wardrobe, wait for at least 30 days before you go purchase a new one. This time frame will allow you to sort and find out what kind of clothes you actually need.
-
Teach your children to share the toys that they’ve outgrown or no longer play with much often. Churches and other charitable institutions will gladly accept items such as these which are still in useful conditions.
-
The moment you get your mails from your mailbox, open them and sort them immediately, Put all your bills and and/or other mails that needs your response in a separate box and place all your junk mails directly to your recycle bin. I you have magazine subscriptions and it takes you seven days or more to open or read them, chances are you won’t get to read the magazine before your next subscription/ issue arrives.
-
Call the companies which you no longer need to keep contact with and inform them, this will lessen if not eliminate the junk mails you have been receiving. Cancel your magazine subscription if you don’t get to read each issue that much.
-
Sort through places where clutter may exist. Most common areas are your side table drawers, home office areas and kitchen counters, and the most common clutters will be old mails, periodicals, hobby materials, broken figurines or toys that you were supposed to fix but forgot about it. Throw them all away to make an additional organization space.
-
If you have lots of assortment of decorative items in your home, sort them according to season. For example, items in lighter color or shade are more appropriate during summer than heavier items such as figurines. Group your collections rather than placing them in display all at the same time; rotating or changing your décor will not only keep your surroundings less cluttered, but it will give you a fresh feeling as well.
-
Establish a regular “de-cluttering” schedule; find some time to file your mails and other important documents, It’s best if you have a filing cabinet where you can keep them. Maintain your financial records such as your paid bills for seven years, after that, discard them and make room for new ones.
